1st Place at GovTech Hackathon 2026: When Digitalisation Creates Real Value

Together with the digital team of the AVA Canton of Bern, we won 1st place in the category «Most Useful Solution» at the Federal Chancellery's GovTech Hackathon. Two days, one prototype and one clear belief: software should make life easier, not harder.

On 28 and 29 May 2026, the Swiss Federal Chancellery hosted the third edition of the GovTech Hackathon in Bern. More than 140 developers, experts and curious minds from government, business and civil society spent two days working on the theme «Use data, create impact».

Our team won 1st place in the category «Most Useful Solution», chosen by a jury of representatives from the cantons, the federal government and academia.

The challenge

For the AVA, the unemployment insurance office of the Canton of Bern, the goal is clear: the digital experience for people who receive unemployment support should be simpler, more effective and truly focused on the people using it. When someone loses their job, they need guidance, not another obstacle.

Our solution

Under the title Unemployed? Not lost! Digital support for Freddy, we built a prototype that shows how public services can become simpler, more effective and more human.

The team

Together with Mike, Patric and Lukas from the AVA digital team, as well as Mathias and Tobias, we built something in a very short time that makes one thing clear: when expert knowledge, technology and real value come together, you don't just get software. You get impact.

Why this means a lot to me

This award fits my core belief: software should make life easier, not harder. That is how I build digital solutions. Practical, easy to understand and focused on real value for the people who use them.

Let's shape the digital future of public services together. When technology is used the right way, complexity turns into clarity. And sometimes an idea even turns into a 1st place. 🚀
